Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

A guided prayer from Lauren, shared at our Made for More Conference. Take a few quiet minutes and walk this path with the One who makes your paths straight.

Find a comfortable position and allow your body to settle.
Rest your hands gently in your lap.
If it feels comfortable, close your eyes.
Take a slow, deep breath in.
And gently exhale.
Again, breathe in God's peace.
And release any tension you have been carrying.
One more deep breath.
As you exhale, allow your shoulders to soften and your jaw to relax.
For these next few moments, there is nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing you need to accomplish.
Nothing you need to prove.
Simply be here.
Become aware of the presence of God surrounding you.
His love is steady.
His presence is near.
His gaze upon you is kind.
Imagine yourself standing at the edge of a beautiful meadow at dawn.
The first rays of sunlight stretch across the horizon.
Wildflowers sway gently in the morning breeze.
The air is cool and fresh.
Everything feels peaceful.
Everything feels alive.

As you stand there, you notice a strong and beautiful oak tree nearby.
Its branches reach toward the sky.
Its trunk is weathered yet sturdy.
Its roots stretch deep into the earth.
You are drawn toward this tree.
As you approach, you hear the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit:
"Before I ask you to bear fruit, I invite you to put down roots."
Take a moment to imagine roots growing from your feet deep into the rich soil beneath you.
Roots of trust.
Roots of faith.
Roots of belonging.
Roots of love.
Feel yourself anchored in Christ.
Not in your accomplishments.
Not in your circumstances.
Not in the opinions of others.
Anchored in Christ alone.
The deeper the roots grow, the more secure you become.
Storms may come.
Winds may blow.
Seasons may change.
But what is rooted deeply does not easily fall.
Rest here for a moment.
Breathing.
Receiving.
Rooted in Christ.
(Pause)
As you continue standing beneath the tree, notice that Jesus is walking toward you.
His face radiates peace.
His eyes are full of compassion.
There is no hurry in His step.
No disappointment in His expression.
Only love.
Only welcome.
He reaches out His hand.
And you take it.
Together you begin walking along a narrow path winding through the meadow.
The path is beautiful.
But it twists and turns.
Some sections disappear around hills you cannot yet see beyond.
As you walk, you realize that you do not know exactly where the path leads.
You cannot see the destination.
Yet Jesus keeps walking.
Steady.
Confident.
Faithful.
You hear Him gently say:
"You do not need to see the entire path to trust the One who leads it."
With each step, release your need for certainty.
With each step, surrender your need for control.
With each step, allow trust to grow.
The future does not belong to fear.
The future belongs to God.
Notice how much lighter you feel as you walk beside Him.
You do not have to carry tomorrow.
You only need to trust Him today.
One faithful step.
Then another.
Then another.
Walking in faith.
(Pause)
The path begins to climb gradually upward.
The terrain changes.
The journey requires more strength.
More endurance.
More courage.
Yet you realize something important.
You are stronger than you once were.
Not because life has been easy.
But because God has been faithful.
Every challenge has taught you something.
Every disappointment has deepened your dependence upon Him.
Every season has shaped you.
Every prayer has mattered.
Every step has prepared you for this moment.
Ahead, you notice a mountain trail illuminated by sunlight.
A sense of purpose begins to awaken within you.
Not pressure.
Not striving.
Purpose.
You begin moving forward with confidence.
The gifts God placed within you.
The people He has called you to love.
The dreams He planted in your heart.
The opportunities He has prepared before you.
You realize that your life was never meant to be merely endured.
It was meant to be lived with intention.
With courage.
With faith.
With purpose.
You were created by God on purpose and for a purpose.
Not to sit on the sidelines.
Not to shrink back.
Not to live beneath your calling.
You were made for more.
Feel your pace quicken.
Your heart becomes lighter.
Your spirit becomes stronger.
You are no longer simply walking.
You are moving forward with joyful determination.
Running with purpose.
Not racing against others.
Not trying to prove your worth.
Simply responding to God's invitation.
Following His call.
Trusting His direction.
Running the race He has marked out for you.
Notice Jesus running beside you.
Encouraging you.
Strengthening you.
Celebrating every faithful step.
You are not running alone.
You never have been.
You never will be.
(Pause)
Now imagine reaching a beautiful overlook high above the meadow.
You stop and look back over the journey.
You see the tree where you were rooted.
You see the winding path where you learned to trust.
You see the mountain trail where purpose came alive.
And suddenly you understand.
The journey was never about arriving somewhere else.
The journey was about becoming who God created you to be.
Rooted in Christ.
Walking in faith.
Running with purpose.
Take a deep breath.
And receive these words:
You are loved.
You are chosen.
You are called.
You are equipped.
You are not forgotten.
You are not behind.
You are not disqualified.
You belong to Christ.
And because you belong to Him, your story is still unfolding.
Your purpose is still alive.
Your calling still matters.
Your future is held securely in His hands.
Rest in that truth.
(Pause)
As we prepare to return, place one hand gently over your heart.
Feel the steady rhythm beneath your hand.
A reminder of God's sustaining presence.
Take a slow, deep breath.
And repeat quietly within your heart:
I am rooted in Christ.
I am walking in faith.
I am running with purpose.
I am made for more.
One final deep breath.
Receive God's peace.
Receive His love.
Receive His invitation to continue the journey with Him.
And when you are ready, gently bring your awareness back to the room.
Open your eyes.
Carry His presence with you.
And step into this day rooted in Christ, walking in faith, and running with purpose.
Amen.
